Dr. Matthews started her medical career as a registered nurse before earning her medical degree from the MCP Hahnemman School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She completed her medical internship at Morristown Memorial Hospital and her radiation oncology residency at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Matthews comes to Cancer Centers of the Carolinas from 21st Century Oncology in New Jersey. She is Board Certified in Radiation Oncology. She enjoys speaking to the community about cancer awareness and education.
