Dr. Stephenson earned his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his internship and residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia, and his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He remained in San Antonio where he held the dual position of Associate Professor at the University of Texas San Antonio School of Medicine and the Cancer Therapy Research Center and was the Director of the General Maxwell Thurman Drug Development Unit. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology.

Dr. Stephenson is the Founder and Director of the Clinical Research Unit which offers Phase I and Phase II Clinical Trials in the Upstate of South Carolina.
