Clinical Research Unit
The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) was opened by Cancer Centers of the Carolina' in August 2004 under the direction of Dr. Joe Stephenson. Through the Clinical Research Unit trials of new drugs that are intended either to prevent cancerous tumors from growing or to eliminate them altogether are performed. The CRU brings advanced clinical research - and hope - to Upstate patients, many of whom have not found standard therapies effective, and it allows them the comfort and convenience of not having to travel far for treatment.
The Clinical Research Unit is now one of the key components of Greenville Hospital System's Institute for Translational Oncology Research (ITOR). The CRU has changed its name to ITOR Clinical Research Unit.
