Saxon received an Associate Degree in Nursing from Tri-County Technical College. She later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina, and completed the Family Nurse Practitioner Program for her Master of Science from Clemson University.

She has more than 18 years of experience in outpatient and inpatient oncology nursing, including oncology clinical research, administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy, and patient education.

Saxon is certified as an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation and as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Association. She belongs to the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Upstate Nurse Practitioner Association, Golden Corner Nurse Practitioners, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, South Carolina Upstate Oncology Nursing and National Oncology Nursing Society.
