Upstate cancer center recognized for excellence among large community-based cancer centers
Greenville, S.C. – Hematology & Oncology News & Issues magazine has recognized Cancer Centers of the Carolinas as the best example of practice excellence in Integration of Care among large community-based cancer centers. Cancer Centers of the Carolinas shares this national recognition with the Bakersfield, California-based Comprehensive Blood & Cancer Center in what Hematology & Oncology News & Issues executive editor Larry Coutts describes as a “virtual tie.”
Through the HOPE Awards, Hematology & Oncology News & Issues recognizes and rewards community-based oncology practices for their commitment to practice excellence.
“This national award is a testament to the medical, clinical and service excellence provided by our team of oncologists, clinicians and administrative staff,” said Tom Kelley, Executive Director of Cancer Centers of the Carolinas.
The award criteria centered around practices’ multi-disciplinary care as well as how each practice integrates medical oncology (chemotherapy) and radiation therapy, as well as other oncology services.
“This is what we do every day. It’s not a gimmick. We truly care for our patients, and with that comes not only the desire to give the best treatment, but to make it as convenient, effective and easy as possible,” said Jeff Edenfield, MD, medical oncologist at Cancer Centers of the Carolinas. “Whether it’s chemotherapy, radiation, PET/CT services, clinical trials or any combination of those and the other services we offer, our goal is to make our patients’ experience as smooth as possible.”
