Patient Information Regarding Transition to GHS

 June 19, 2012

Dear Cancer Centers of the Carolinas’ Patient:

In February, we announced that Cancer Centers of the Carolinas is joining the Greenville Hospital System.  The date of the integration is July 1, 2012.  During this transition, we are committed to making your care and needs our priority.  You will continue to see your same doctor at the same locations you are familiar with, and you will continue to work with your current care team.

Cancer Centers of the Carolinas will be converting to the Greenville Hospital System’s enterprise-wide patient registration system.  Initially, and periodically thereafter, your registration and insurance information will have to be updated in the new system.  Since Cancer Centers of the Carolinas will become a hospital outpatient department, you may receive two (2) bills from each service location.  One bill represents the professional or physician services and will indicate Greenville Hospital System Partners in Health doing business as University Medical Group Cancer Centers of the Carolinas (GHS PIH DBA UMG Cancer CNTRS).  The other bill represents outpatient services such as chemotherapy and radiation and will indicate Greenville Memorial Hospital.  After the transition, a financial counselor will review sample bills with you to ensure you understand how to read them.

Depending on your insurance coverage, your benefits may differ for certain outpatient services and procedures.  We recommend all patients review their insurance benefits to determine what their policy will pay and what out-of-pocket expenses might be incurred.  These changes may result in a higher cost to you at each visit as services are subject to both a co-insurance and a deductible as defined by your benefit plan for hospital outpatient services.  The exact amount you owe will depend on services rendered, as well as your benefit plan.  Our financial counselors will verify eligibility and outpatient benefits and will obtain updated authorizations for future services.

For your convenience, your medical records will transfer with the integration; however, if you should decide to receive your ongoing care elsewhere, you may obtain copies of your medical records by calling 864-553-7662 and signing a release form.  Please note that requests must be made at least one week in advance.

We have also prepared a Patients’ Frequently Asked Questions document.  This document is located by clicking here and is available in each office.

Please know that we are here to help as these changes may be confusing.  Each of our offices has a financial counseling team ready to assist with explaining your insurance policy’s terms and out-of-pocket expenses.  Should you have immediate questions, please contact our customer service representative at 864-241-7763.

Sincerely,

The Physicians of Cancer Centers of the Carolinas
